The Phillies $5Billion TV Deal

“There’s nothing like TV money”. The Philadelphia Phillies recently got a lot richer. Last month the MLB team inked a $5 billion, 25-year local television deal with Comcast CMCSA -0.96% SportsNet Philadelphia–half the value of the cable deal comes from annual rights fees that will average $100 million and the remainder comes from the estimated cash the Phillies will get from their 25% stake in the regional sports network and right to sell advertising on the channel–that begins with the 2016 season.
